About Read Your Scan
Read Your Scan helps patients see and understand their own medical imaging — MRI, CT and X-ray — in plain language, before and after a doctor’s visit. It is an informational tool to help you have a better conversation with your care team. It is never a diagnosis and never a substitute for a licensed radiologist or your doctor.
What we do
- A free, in-browser 3D viewer for DICOM and NIfTI — no upload needed to look at your own scan.
- An optional AI reading that describes the findings in plain language and places each one on the images.
- A second opinion that has two independent AI models read the same scan and shows where they agree and where they differ.
- Report mapping paste your radiologist’s report and see each finding explained and located on the scan.
- Private, revocable sharing so you can send the study to your doctor with one link.
How the AI works — and its limits
Your imaging is de-identified in your browser, then read by two model families — Anthropic’s Claude and a Google model. Findings are mapped back onto your scan so you can see exactly where each one is.
We are deliberately transparent about a hard fact: today’s general medical vision models are only moderately accurate — roughly 60% on published imaging benchmarks. That is precisely why we do not present a single, confident answer. Instead, the second opinion runs two independent models and surfaces their disagreement as “discuss with your doctor,” rather than hiding uncertainty behind a polished report.
Our editorial and medical standards
- Informational, not diagnostic. Every report says so, and we never tell you what a finding means for your health or what to do about it.
- We show uncertainty instead of hiding it. Confidence levels, model disagreements and “not localized” findings are shown, not smoothed over.
- We name our models and show which one produced each result, so nothing is a black box.
- We funnel you toward your doctor, including auto-generated questions to ask — not away from professional care.
Privacy & security by design
- De-identification in your browser — DICOM identity tags are stripped before anything is uploaded.
- Private storage — only you can access your studies; sharing is off until you turn it on.
- Revocable links and one-click deletion — you stay in control of your data.

What we don’t do
Read Your Scan does not diagnose, does not triage emergencies, and does not give treatment advice. It is not a replacement for a radiologist, a physician, or in-person care. If you have urgent symptoms, call your local emergency number.
